Finished The Forgotten Garden. Meh. Read like a lowbrow Possession, too many characters, too much jumping about in time. It wasn't a bad idea, and some of the characters were good, ... ... But at least there's no real "running late" concept here, you just read the books if/when you can.)
Still reading The Forgotten Garden. The Women's Weekly sticker on the cover ("Great Read!") isn't quite correct. It's an interesting story, that's not quite sure what it wants to be, and ... #35 & 36 I totally agree. I got stuck with The Forgotten Garden as a early review book for Amazon and was forced to make my way though. I kept screaming - get on with it! But it seemed to be getting favorable reviews at the time I posted mine.
I think Morton has a better book in her but ... Good luck with The Forgotten Garden, wookie. In my opinion, it did not live up to expectations, but perhaps it is just me. ... put Wolf Hall aside for a brief break (wah! didn't wanna!) so I can knock over a book for my bookgroup: Kate Morton's The Forgotten Garden. It's not great (slightly dim heroine who can't see what's bleedingly obvious since page one), but it is an intruiguing plot and I am curious to see ... ... in, but as usual seem to have committed to some other reads first! I'm over half way through Wolf Hall, and need to read The Forgotten Garden for my book group. And since we're heading into summer (and school holidays!) reading time is looking a bit thin.

I really liked The House at Riverton, and loved The Forgotten Garden. I would have given The Forgotten Garden 5 stars, except that I thought some of her time shifts were a bit awkward.

Since the NDE, I have read Nightingale Wood (a romance) by Stella Gibbons of Cold Comfort Farm fame; Kate Morton’s The Forgotten Garden – one of those novels that is no better than it should be; and Beggars in Spain, a curious piece of science fiction by Nancy Kress, an author with ... ... right now I can't remember the title. It is chicklit, quite agreeable, I would say.

* that's "quite" as in the English meaning (a bit) rather than the American (very, as I understand it) I'm reading The Forgotten Garden which is quite good in a Rosamund Pilcherish way although I've spotted a few inaccuracies, which is a little annoying. I'm trying to read the Mitford Sisters' letters but have a big Early Reviewers history book I should be reading first... ... books this way before). They had. So I came home with:

I loved The Forgotten Garden. This was written in a similar style, mainly in flashbacks, but wasn't quite as good. Towards the end, the narrative felt rushed and the characters became less believable.

I really enjoyed this book. I liked the way it was written in three different time periods and the events of each were gradually revealed, throwing up unexpected answers to the modern characters' questions about the past. ...
