It doesn't keep the attention of the reader. I think the illustrations are better than the actual writing. The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a story about a caterpillar's life. The caterpillar starts out as an egg, then becomes a caterpillar. The caterpillar eats lots of foods and becomes very large. Finally, the caterpillar forms a cocoon and eventually becomes a butterfly. Type: picture book, easy Genre: information book Illustrations: painted This is a great book for students in 2nd grade or younger. It is a great book to teach students numbers. It would also be useful when studying science, butterflies, or metamorphosis. no reviews | add a review

But more importantly is the words in the book. The words use alliteration to teach annunciation and new vocabulary to young children. "In the Light of the moon the Little egg Lay on a Leaf." The author also uses repetition so the child hears the words over and over - and will get a feeling for how to use them.
The illustrations in this book are really cool. Each fruit that is mentioned is drawn with an actual hole in it - where the caterpillar might have ate through it. The caterpillar itself looks a little scary, but that is OK, because he turns into a beautiful butterfly in the end. (
