There are many characters in this book. The main character is the little monkey. From his actions, we can tell that this little is very naught and clever. Use: This book is a good picture for 1&2 graders as a book to begin the class and draw students' attention. There are many words of animals which students can learn. what's more, it is also very good to let students follow the actions in this book. This fantasy book tells the story of a curious monkey who lives in the zoo. He copies whatever he sees other animals or people doing, and eventually he gets out of the zoo. He helps the milk man, he helps the post carrier, and even goes to school with some kids. Whatever monkey sees, he does, even math problems. The monkey saves a kitten from tall heights, and then at the end of the day he goes back to the zoo. But the crocodile tries to eat him, and he runs back to his mom. Adorably illustrated for the primary grades. This modern fantasy book talks about a monkey who leaves the zoo for a day. He adventures around town helping deliver mail, greeting a baby, and doing math problems on a black board. He lives his day out of the zoo like an adventurous young child. Children would love the parts of the story when he saves the cat and visits the elementary school. At the end of the day he realizes all he wants is to be home and with his mommy. The book does a particularly good job incorporating different ethnicity, jobs, and genders. Summary: An adventurous little monkey who escapes from the zoo and spends the day meeting new friends in the outside world begins to miss his mom when evening comes. Genre Critique: This story is a fantasy because the monkey performs tasks that a monkey in real life would obviously never do. In the story the monkey does many tasks including being packed into the back of a van along with doing math in a classroom. Style: The author of this story utilizes rhyme and rhythm throughout this entire book. An example of this is when he writes, "Sunny morning, bright and early, things are stirring in the zoo. Comes the keeper with his key ring, monkey see, monkey do!" no reviews | add a review
