... or just like/dislike. Just human nature. As I struggled through The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, and before that The Widows of Eastwick, both of which most everyone else in my RL book club loved, I did wonder if there was something wrong with me. And, of course, it was completely and ... ... too.
Rabbit is Rich and Rabbit at Rest by John Updike.
Ditto The Witches of Eastwick which I re-read after starting The Widows of Eastwick and realizing I needed to get reacquainted with the story, and then finished Widows.
On the Line by Serena Williams with Daniel Paisner
Cold Sass ... I read a little more than half of The Widows of Eastwick by John Updike for my book club. I found myself avoiding reading, which was a huge red flag, since reading is like breathing to me (as it no doubt is to almost every LTer). So I think what I didn't like about the book was my distaste for ... After plodding through more than half of The Widows of Eastwick for an RL book club, I've dropped it due to my apparently rather low freak-out factor. I just do not like the characters, especially nasty Jane with her ss-sibilants, and the allusions to the three witches' witchy activities thirty ... #144 (jbleil): I recently reread Witches of Eastwick, and then read the new Widows of Eastwick.
I find myself still liking the first (Witches) but not too excited about "Widows." I finished the book, mainly because I have a hard time quitting a book--as if there's always a chance for ... ... old, subtract your age from 100 and only grant it that many pages."
Found it on Wikipedia.
I may have to Pearl Rule The Widows of Eastwick, in spite of reading it for my RL book club. Should I give it another chance? What say you? (if you have read it) ... light, yet absorbing, read I was looking for. However, I did not like the ending, at all, so be warned.
Now I'm starting The Widows of Eastwick by John Updike for a RL book club. I never read The Witches of Eastwick so I hope it doesn't matter. ... Maybe I'll learn about how I misuse the Bible to comfort myself, or maybe I'll learn about Favazza's prejudices.

I'm not sure that I'm ready to spend more time with the three witches. I agree with you - I did not find the book ... ... enjoyed his writing style, and will definitely try his Rabbit books. Updike wrote a sequel not long before he died - The Widows of Eastwick - in case you are interested! I have heard some critics label Witches as misogynistic, while others have said that it is liberating. I know it was ... ... my personal enjoyment of the book, not a comment on the quality of the work.
