Well written and fairly comprehensive as it is, this is probably not the best book for a beginning rider or novice horse handler to start with. As a supplemental text, it's good for locating easy to comprehend, relatively brief explanations of terms and the photo sequences are helpful -- just not terribly plentiful. If you're considering starting a young horse, this might be a helpful text used, as suggested by the authors, in conjunction with the assistance and advice of someone who has had some previous hands-on experience (and success) with starting youngsters.
