This book is stunningly useful. Ein Klassiker. Unerreicht und Unerreichbar. This is one of my favourite books to read on the loo. Full of random but interesting facts to enrich the mind, or simply relieve boredom. I read this book over a 2-year's period. Needless to say I cannot remember much of what I found there. Sometimes interesting and unexpected things or quotations, sometimes full pages without great significance. Rather uneven finally. Marrant ! Handbooks, vade-mecums, etc I received this book as a gift from two different people, which probably makes me a card carrying pencil necked geek. However, I truly enjoyed this slim volume of nonessential and charming trivia. Bonus points if you have the gilt Smythson version bound in fine leather. Useless, entertaining, and absurdly over priced: always a sure formula for success. Full of fascinating and sometimes useful information, from how to make a Bloody Mary to the U.S. Presidential succession. This miscellany was discovered by me several years ago, and I was instantly fascinated! The organization smacks of some age-old publication, but the information within encompasses both the old and the new, and is endlessly entertaining and interesting. This book is a wonderful collection of random information. Much of the information is totally useless but fascinating. Tidbits of useful information can also be found This is a fun and whimsical collection of things like: so-ever-many decimal points of pi, how to tie a bow tie, what people say when they die, and ... well, you'll just have to give it a try. Some Q words with no U: Qad -- Qanat -- Qanon -- Qasida -- Qere -- Qhat -- Qi --Qirint -- Qwerty --Posey Wonderful for the trivia addict or for anyone who likes browsing interesting facts. Thoroughly entertaining, and yes, a little on the informative side. :) This entertaining little book lives in our loo! Interesting in parts, but some errors. Addictive fun. A great little compilation of totally useless facts. Among the loads of facts, this book also explains the difference between trivia and the trivial. A hoot, yet surprisingly useful. The deceptively thin Schott's Original Miscellany is a large and delightful collection of bizarre, interesting, or even sometimes useful bits of trivia such as how to wrap a sari, the knights of the Round Table, a discussion on pencil hardness and a the "to be or not to be" speech presented in Pig Latin. Schott presents his facts in a completely serious manner that disguises a bit of dry wit. I read the book from cover to cover, sometimes laughing, sometimes saying "I didn't know that!" and sometimes just agog at the fact that such information is collected in one tome. I mean, where else could you find instructions for measuring bra size on the page facing the schematic of Dante's Inferno? This is a five star book all the way and would make a perfect gift for any trivia fan. I'm just sorry I waited so long to buy it and I'm not sure how I ever lived without having the Irish Code Duello or Archaic Golf Club Nomenclature or various Sesquipedalians at my fingertips. Thanks Mr. Schott--I look forward to the next two! THIS IS NOW IN ITS THIRD YEAR OF PUBLICATION IF YOU WANT A SNAPSHOT OF ALL TGHE INTERESTING THINGS ABOUT 2005, 2006, OR 2007 THEN THIS IS AS GOOD AWAY OF ACCESSING THE INFO AS ANY |
