When I first saw Judy Garland's movie on the Harvey Girls I thought it was just a story. Little did I know that there were truly Harvey Girls that moved west to civilize the railroad outposts owned by Fred Harvey. Being the wait staff in the restaurants attached to the train stations the women were known for their abilities, physical presence and charm. The photographs in this book also bring home the difficult lives they lived. ( )
