And again a wonderful book. I always seem to have one or more of her books lingering on my TBR pile and once I'm reading it I'm wondering why I didn't read it sooner.
I like the couple and the story itself. It is part of the Malloren world but not with an annoyingly heavy emphasis. It can easily be read as a stand-alone. And, as always, the historical atmosphere and details are wonderful without becoming 'dry'.
Oh, and each book in this 'trilogy within the Malloren world' features a special pet, in this case a 'talking' cat. ( )

This was an entertaining read with good historical detail, but towards the middle of the book I got a bit fed up with the characters. It's got one of those plots which hinges on people not being straightforward with each other and maintaining pretenses longer than is reasonably likely. ( )

Two teenagers find themselves forced into marriage due to a compromising situation. The young man gives a false name, enlists in the army and hopes all will be forgotten. Ten years later he is forced to track down the young lady he wed in order to learn if everything was legal, is she still alive, etc. In order to satisfy his curiosity without giving himself away he uses a false name to find his wife. When he comes calling to her residence she thinks he is a relative of her husband and doesn't want to give herself away. She uses a false name while finding out her own information. Although it sounds a bit preposterous, the plot works and the characters eventually discover each other and their mutual attraction/love.

A light, guilty-pleasure story. ( )

Follows A Lady's Secret. Due to compromising circumstances a decade earlier, Christian, Major Lord Grandiston, arrives home from war in Canada to find out that he is indeed married to Dorcas Froggatt, a steel heiress from the North. But when he goes to find Dorcas he runs into the mysterious Kat and finds himself somewhat sidetracked. Amusing, with very likeable characters and a lively plot. Recommended. ( )

Book description
The Secret Wedding by Jo Beverley

At the age of seventeen, Christian Hill impulsively defends young Dorcas Froggatt's honor--and finds himself forced into marriage. That doesn't stop him from pursuing his military career abroad, where he swiftly puts his young bride out of his mind--until the past comes back to haunt him.

Not long after her traumatic marriage, Dorcas hears that her new husband, Hill, has died in battle. She's shocked to discover that he's not only still alive, but searching for her. She's determined not to sacrifice her independence, not expecting the true dangers she'll soon face and, even less, the true love she'll discover with the man who rescued her all those years ago.
