This book gives a general overview of the current HMS Ark Royal, R07, and really just whets the appetite for information which is readily available. Launched on 20 June 1981 sponsored by Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother and commissioned on 1 November 1985 she followed the previous Ark Royal, R09 (oddly enough) and no doubt we will see another of Her Majesty's Ships pick up that famous name at some point in the future.

The book is well illustrated with rare photos, including a collection from the ship’s visit to New York City with the twin towers of the World Trade Centre prominent in the background. There for the unveiling of the newly restored Statue of Liberty, Ark Royal pilots ensured their place in the hearts of New Yorkers by flying their Harriers up to and then bowing to Lady Liberty.

David Smith and Andrew Wynn have delivered a rather basic book on this fine ship but again, you are left wanting more information than is presented here. If you are able to find a copy of the book, and the price is right however, the photos within alone would probably make it a worthy purchase.
