Toen in de Tweede Wereldoorlog de import van tabak stil kwam te liggen ontstond er een tekort en gingen veel rokers zelf tabak verbouwen. Tuinder Derk Keurhorst en oud-tabaksplanter Gerrit Weverling uit Diepenveen zagen het gat in de markt en zo ontstond in 1942 aan de Puinweg in hun woonplaats de Diepenveensche Tabak Centrale, de DTC. Hun onderneming heette in de volksmond 'de plantage van Keurhorst'. Het werd een groot succes. Na 1945 ging de DTC over in Deventer handen. Deze publicatie werd samengesteld uit materiaal dat verzameld is door Jan Jansen, eigenaar van de bekende Deventer tabakszaak 'Jansen aan de Brink'.
