The bodies keep piling up but the good guys continue to survive. Of course, we lost an important character in this volume but good prevails over bad once again. Higgins has an outstanding way in providing us with interesting characters who one feels one knows from almost the first mention. ( )

Intrigue in the halls of power, blood in the streets— the master of suspense returns with a novel of dark passion and darker deeds.

After almost two score books, Higgins knows how to fire up a thriller,” wrote Publishers Weekly about the author’s latest book, The Killing Ground. “It’s all pure Higgins: almost every shot hits square between the eyes, and all the characters are hard lads indeed.” But none of them harder... ( )

If you haven't given up already on the Sean Dillon series due to the lacklustre writing then you might be surprised to find the franchise is refreshed in this novel with the entry of a new character - Harry Miller.

Your surprise however is quickly subdued upon the realisation that other than a new character the plot line and characters are still one dimensional and dull. Witty "off the cuff" remarks suddenly seem not so witty and off the cuff when you can remember them being used in prior novels, such as "..it's like a bad novel..." yes, yes it is.

If you've nothing better to choose this novel will fill in your time, it is however, not anything memorable. ( )

Dispatched by the President to report on the state of still troubled Kosovo, his trusted agent Blake Johnson runs into a military man there named Harry Miller, who has the same task from the British Prime Minister. They band together just in time to stop a Russian officer from torching a mosque--or rather, Miller stops him, with a bullet to the forehead. This action will have considerable consequences, not only for Miller and Johnson and their associates, including Britain's Sean Dillon, but for a great many people, all the way to the top of the governments of the United States, Britain, and Russia.--From publisher description.… (more)
