Stephen King and Peter Straub are two of my favorite writers. I think I've been putting these off because I'm afraid I'll somehow find the combo disappointing. hm, then Black House? ... Abhorsen

Some I didn't enjoy so much:
Snow Flower and the Secret Fan - even abridged it tends to get redundant, ... ... Lisey's Story. My copy of Cell had an excerpt from it, which hooked me straight away.
There were parts about Black House that I truly loved. The explanation of borderlands for instance still gives me chills when I think about it! ... lost that way. Among some of the other works that would be a good idea to read at the same time though, The Talisman and Black House are about the same main character and are a bit of a spin off on the Dark Tower series. These two could be read either before of after the whole series. One ... Black House by Stephen King. Storm of the Century by King I love when Andre Lenouge (spelling?) says, "Give me what I want and I will go away." That is seriously disturbing. Ghost Story by Peter Straub, my first Horror story that I ever read. I recently read My Favorite Horror Story. It's a ... ... He has some very diabolical stories if you find the right ones. Shadowland is at the top of my list and of coarse Black House and The Talisman with Stephen King.
I am currently delving into the works of Jack Ketchum and can't believe I didn't read this stuff sooner. What the ... Black House by Stephen King ... which he co-wrote with Peter Straub (not one of my favorite authors, but I did enjoy his Ghost Story). Their sequel, Black House, was good, though not as good as the original.
The Dark Tower series was great; my favorite book of the series was Part V - Wolves of the Calla. ... me to read the books.
I usually always read a book through once I start it come hell or high water, but I abandoned Black House by Stephen King last year. I had re-read The Talisman to prepare for it, (which I had read about 20 years earlier) and was so disappointed in the sequel, ... Well, I'm biased, though, I've only read him as co-author with Stephen King in The Talisman and Black House. But ignore the fact that I'm a huge SK fan when I tell you those two books are among my favorites :)

Sequel to The Talisman, I found this story as deeply engaging as the other book. It's quite different in tone though, darker and more horrific, involving a very twisted serial killer and gruesome descriptions. I don't think that I would recommend Robert Holdstocks Mythago wood series though, they are very dense, and a bit of an acquired ... ... in the world who hated it, but I did. The characters felt liked they'd stumbled out of a comic book.
Didn't hate Black House but I was sure disappointed by it. I was really expecting a lot more there.

Personally, I feel that the first three books will introduce certain characters to you. Also Everything's Eventual has a short story about Roland in it. ... I'm still reading Black House by Stephen King and Peter Straub, about two-thirds through the book. I also started Robert Westall's Rachel and the Angel and other stories over the weekend.

I wasn't until I realized I had been reading the Dark Tower series anyway (The Stand, The Talisman, Black House, From a Buick 8, Everything's Eventual, Insomnia, It to name a few) that I decided to read the thing from beginning to end.
Actually, if you follow ... ... to Peter Straub in which his writing suffers a bit after a collaboration with Stephen King (in this particular case, after Black House). As for the mathematical conundrum, I'd say that's just a pretty good sign that the book didn't work for you. If the reader is really taking notice of ... I blame Black House ... of Eden
