Another well written book by Mrs. Benzoni. The 2nd where the main characters are the (real) Baron Jean de Batz and (fictitious) Anne-Laure/Laura Adams. (You will learn the French “revolutionaries” were in reality a bunch of murderous thugs. They removed the State religion just to revert to their own version. They criticized the aristocracy for their excess and lived of their stolen properties and committed the most atrocious deeds. For example, at the time of the “revolution” roughly 360,000 people lived in Paris; during the course of 6 weeks over 1,300 people—of all social classes—were summarily executed. Their bodies were thrown in a common pit at Picpus: nobles, churchmen, nuns and commoners. The ones interested in (real) History should turn to the many books by Lênotre. There are also the memories of Marie-Thérèse and her mother Marie-Antoinette’s last letter (written to her sister-in-law on October 16, 1793, but kept by Robespierre; shown at an exhibit in Paris a few years ago it can be seen here: www.histoire-image.org/site/etude_comp/etude_comp_detail.php?analyse_id=417) ( )
