I originally read this book by Kevin Davies several years ago, and remembered it as a tour-de-force, but I'm even more taken with it upon re-reading. The book interlaces three different long poems with one another, marking them off typographically with bullets, lines, and numerals. There's a great deal of pleasure both in tracking the voices of these poems through the book, as well as in the constant wordplay and irony of each poem.

But beyond this pleasure, the book has a sharp edge, a kind of ecstatic critique both of the powerlessness of academic poetry and of Bush-era neoliberalism. ( )
