You might enjoy Steve (SM)Sterling's Island in the sea of time series. It is an Alternate History
book. I did enjoy Steven R. Donaldson's series. I have read them more than once. Not quite historical. More like a parallel experience. Half fantasy world, half modern day. Island in the Sea of Time by S. M. Stirling and its sequals are a great displaced in time what if. His newest books are what happens to the rest of the world after Nantucket is sucked back in time and I recommend them as well. ... finished 1632 by Eric Flint. I liked the book very much on an initial reading, finding its plot quite similar to Island in the Sea of Time by S.M. Stirling. However, though both books deal with a 20th century American town being transplanted, root and branch, to the distant past, ... Time of the Fourth Horseman by Chelsea Quinn Yarbro

Another interesting premise from Stirling: What if the island of Nantucket was swept back in time to 1250 BC? Stirling gets ... ... book form. Maybe there is a book like that about Nietzche!

Stirling's Island in the Sea of Time and its two immediate sequels feature a female sea captain (of the USCG barque Eagle) in a prominent role.
If you like technothrillers, James ... ... books I've read involving same-sex relationships. The only two that come to mind are The Chosen by Ricardo Pinto and Island in the Sea of Time by S.M. Stirling. I loved the former and didn't even finish the latter.
I don't think I would recommend this book to others. I didn't ...
