I actually liked the secondary characters, Sharon and Richard, better than the H/H because they grew throughout the story. This book fell a little flat for me. Gabrielle is a strong woman who goes after what she wants, but it almost is too annoying. She hasn't seen the man in over 10 years, but she is going to make him want her back and admit he loves her? It just didn't seem deep enough. Derek was also a bit of a flat character without much depth. The chemistry between the two was limited--there was no build up, no suspense to it. It was just a little boring to me. The mystery to the story (who is trying to scare Gabrielle away) was predictable and a little too obvious to me. I was expecting a little more of a twist. Carly Phillips has written many better books. This one was just a middle of the road book. A light read, but not one I am going to remember in a week. If this had been my first book by her, I would not be running to the store to buy anything else by her. Since I know she can do better, I will keep up with her and hope for the trilogy to get better no reviews | add a review

Derek thought he could outsmart the long-standing Corwin curse by breaking up with Gabrielle, his first love—and marrying someone else. Now, divorced and broke, all he has left is his teenage daughter and a healthy respect for ancient sorcery. But then Gabrielle returns, determined to defeat the curse and rekindle their passion. But will her stubborn streak and her unwavering love be the lucky charm Derek so desperately needs?
