There's been a huge mistake. Two babies have been switched at birth. Now, a normal little boy is being raised to lead the hounds of Hell and the Antichrist is trying to get his suburbian friends to help him rule the world. Through all of this, angles, demons, and the decendant of a prophet try to preven the end of the world--and succeed in getting me to fall off my chair laughing more than once. This is the first book I read by either author and turned me quickly to their other writings. I'm in love. ( )

A fun read, full of silliness and humour. ( )

This may be the funniest book I've ever read. A laugh out loud book. The best, most clever use of footnotes ever--Oscar Woa copied. If you like Gaiman or Pratchett it is a must read. If you hate the traffic in London, it is also a must read. ( )

I listened to most of this and read the rest. Gaiman and Pratchett together--and writing about the end of the world--should be mind-blowingly smart and funny, but I'm afraid this one was just an above-average amount of smart and funny and doesn't stand at the top of the pack for either of them. ( )

I've read this book twice now, with about a two year gap between readings. The first time I read it I was unaware of the hype. I thought it was a plesant book but lacked focus and was a little fuzzy in the end. Funny and witty but not deeply emotive. I have to say on the second read through that I agree with myself. While I do love Crowley and Azriphale, I felt that some of the other characters aren't as strong, Newt and Anathema, for example, or Adam who has little to recoment him other then being the anti-christ. I very much enjoyed the first half of ths book, but felt in the second half as the focus moved away from Crowley and Azriphale and there were frequent jumps between point of view characters, it was quite wishy washy and harder to follow. Still, a good read. Worth the effort, just maybe not the best novel you'll ever read in your life. ( )

Book description

Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0060853980, Mass Market Paperback)

According to The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch (the world's only completely accurate book of prophecies, written in 1655, before she exploded), the world will end on a Saturday. Next Saturday, in fact. Just before dinner.

So the armies of Good and Evil are amassing, Atlantis is rising, frogs are falling, tempers are flaring. Everything appears to be going according to Divine Plan. Except a somewhat fussy angel and a fast-living demon—both of whom have lived amongst Earth's mortals since The Beginning and have grown rather fond of the lifestyle—are not actually looking forward to the coming Rapture.

And someone seems to have misplaced the Antichrist . . .
