This book is a series of narratives compiled by three people: Mark Victor Hansen, Kimberly Kirberger, and Jack Canfield. The stories are sent in by teen contributors from their own personal experiences and opinions. The main theme is the struggle teens endure such as growing up, tragedy, death, suicide, alcohol, eating disorders, drugs and family matters. Each story deals with a difficult issue and provides something profound the author wants to share. It gives teens lessons about life and the feeling that they are not alone. This book aims to give comfort, hope, inspiration and motivation for teens.
Target Audience Grades 10-12
This inspirational book is very helpful to many teens facing similar struggles. The book provides many contacts, help lines, and websites that will help teens who are facing the same struggles. By having the stories written by teens themselves, the teen reader can easily sympathize with the author of the narrative. The book gives teens the courage and strength by providing them stories about other teens overcoming their own struggles and following it up with references for the reader to contact should they decide to seek help.

"When written in Chinese, the word "crisis" is composed of two characters. One represents danger, and the other represents opportunity. - John F. Kennedy
A nutshell representation of this book. Bad times with "bridges" (the quotations, poetry and short stories shared by various authors) to help get to the other side. ( )

I am a firm believer in the idea of using other's lessons to teach yourself. Of all the Chicken Soup books this was my favorite because it wasn't afraid to take all the hard things people go through and put them out there for the world to see. My copy which i recieved as a gift from a good friend back in 6th grade is stained with the tears of me and my sisters who have all read the many heartwarming storied between the covers.
This is the type of book I can keep reading for years to come because it contains so many wonderful stories. The best part is there is always some way I can relate to each of them and each one adds its own bit of inspiration.

Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 155874942X, Paperback)

This latest offering in the best-selling Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul series explores a host of challenges faced by today's teens. Within its pages teens will find portraits of life's complexities expressed from the viewpoint of their peers. Teen contributors share their thoughts and feelings on difficult issues, ranging from poor self-image to thoughts of suicide, from family discord to coping with the loss, from peer pressure to school violence.

Teens ranked stress as one of their top concerns (along with child abuse and STDs). Oftentimes, the pressure can feel overwhelming, whether they involve worrying about an upcoming test, competition sports, family responsibilities, dating, or more extreme issues such as depression, suicide and school violence.

The first three volumes of the Teenage Soul series and the companion journal illustrate the ongoing popularity of this series (unit sales exceed 11 million). Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul on Tough Stuff and the Spring 2001 release Teenage Soul Letters will undoubtedly follow suit as the next best-sellers in a phenomenally popular series.
