Book description
Hogwash is the most famous school in the wizarding world and Barry Trotter is its most famous pupil. It's been that way ever since J.G. Rollins' Barry Trotter and the Philosopher's Scone broke publishing records worldwide.

So important has Barry become to the school's bottom-line that it has been agreed that he can stay at Hogwash for as long as he likes. Barry Trotter is 22.

Groupie-laden and scholarship-free, life has been good for the perpetual student, but now disaster looms. The movie Barry Trotter and the Incredible Attempt to Cash-in has gone into production and the Marketing Dept. at Wagner Bros. is going into overdrive. Hogwash will be submerged under a tide of souvenir-crazed Muddle fans, torn apart and sold on eBay, stone by mossy stone.

The movie must be stopped. Forget Lord Valumart — Barry, Ermine Cringer and Lon Measely must try to defeat the most powerful force of grasping sleazoids the world has ever known: Hollywood.

WARNING: THIS ISN'T THE REAL THING...IT'S FUNNIER!

"Stop that movie," Headmaster Alpo Bumblemore said, "or Hogwash is history!"

Already overrun by brawling, fetid fans of the bestselling Barry Trotter books, Hogwash is certain to be pulled down brick by brick after Barry's new big-budget biopic debuts. So Barry Trotter, Ermine Cringer, and Lon Measly are hauled out of retirement to face their toughest challenge yet. Not only do the twenty-two-year-olds have to elude packs of rabid fans, outwit Barry's sponging godfather Serious, and vanquish their old foe Lord Valumart, they have to face the most powerful enemy of all: Hollywood!

Amazon.com Book Description (ISBN 057507454X, Hardcover)

Barry Trotter is 22 and has never left the Hogwash School of Magic - there's been no need; after all G.K. Rollin's books about him have made him a millionaire and Barry is perfectly happy to while away his days as a perpetual (loaded) student. The hoardes of Muddles who hang around outside Hogwash desperate to see him, touch him, are a bit of pain but he can deal with that.

But then comes news that Hollywood is planning a film of Rollin's first book about Barry. And they all know what that means: loss of creative control; cheap merchandising; millions more Muddles swarming over Hogwash. Barry agrees a plan with Bumblemore; the film must be stopped.

BARRY TROTTER AND THE SHAMELESS PARODY is an incisive and hilarious parody of the Harry Potter phenomenon. There are slyly affectionate digs at the books themselves but Gerber's main scorn is directed at the monster that the Harry Potter franchise has become. The book has a creative energy all its own introducing characters and a hilarious take on magic that even J.K Rowling might appreciate.
