Story of a poor, young German man travelling to Australia to start a new life. He meets and falls in love with a girl on the ship, the daughter of a key Sydney politician. The tale is told of their battle to start their life together in the Barossa region of South Australia during war-time, and the difficulties faced by German settlers as they are ostracised in their adopted homeland.
