This is one of the best introductions to the Eighth Doctor Sam Jones relationship, it neatly introduces both characters. Especially establishing Sam Jones beyond the one dimension shown in previous novel The Eight Doctors.
Written around the time (or slightly before) Buffy the Vampire Slayer it has a similar 'mood' to it, a modern setting for vampires but with Doctor Who's own brand of mythology present.
Blum and Orman really flesh out who the Eighth Doctor is, what he stands for and how he reacts when facing the vampires.
A really good read and a really good introduction to the Eighth Doctor Adventures novel line and Doctor Who as a whole. I'd highly recommend this over The Eight Doctors as a first BBC Eighth Doctor novel. ( )
