I loved this one. Great series about strong girls. ( )

I'm really enjoying rereading these. ( )

This was one of my favorite books in elementary and junior high school. Kel trains to become a knight despite the prejudices of her contemporaries, who claim that girls are not suited to be warriors. Kel is an excellent role model for youth: she stands up for her those who are picked on by bullies, and she does what's right despite the cost her herself. She teaches young readers to be proud of who they are.

There's not much I can add that other reviews haven't already covered, and probably better.

The only thing I can say is: avoid the Scholastic ebook versions like the plague, if you can. There are multiple punctuation and spelling errors throughout *all* of Tamora Pierce's books that they've had a hand in digitising.

I've been (re)reading the Tortall books in chronological order. I first read Tamora Pierce's work in paperback, most of them at the time of original release. This time around Scholastic ebook imprints are what's available through my local library, and the lack of care on the publisher's part is appalling. It's clearly an OCR job that no one bothered to run past a proof-reader first. ( )

It just makes me so happy to see Kel begin to grow into the badass woman she becomes. I don’t know why but the ending always gives me near happy tears.
5⭐️s obviously - well maybe 4.5 but you can’t do half’s on goodreads... ( )
