Everyone in Elizabeth's family is dead. Her brother was murdered and now the man that murdered him wants Elizabeth for his own and he will stop at nothing to have her. She buys some time by telling him that the dead come back to haunt their home at night. She asks him to give her a few days to grieve but she knows he will be back soon. That night she packs some food and rides her horse away from the only home she has known.

While some may like this book, I found it boring. I finished because I hate to leave a book unfinished, no matter how much I dislike it. Of course, I have never been a fan of western fiction so that may have a lot to do with it. ( )

Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 080071301X, Mass Market Paperback)

Grace Livingston Hill was an early 20th century Christian Romance novelist. She is credited with having written hundreds of short stories and novels. Her strong female characters were either solid Christian women or women who became Christian during the course of the story. Hill's message was always the same: good verses evil. Elizabeth lived in primitive circumstances in Montana. When the last of her family dies she flees Montana and a man who wants to make her his own. On her journey East she meets a man who is also lost. Elizabeth prays often but does not really know the Lord. Eventually Elizabeth makes her way to Philadelphia where she meets her relatives.
