The Kama-Sutra is an entertaining instructional manual, if you like. A lot of the stuff in there of course is ancient, and now will seem quite absurd, as though it was out of a story about witches and wizards cooking up potions and other stuff like that. Apart from that, though, it is quite amusing to see what they came up with. http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/14609 This is a very *interesting* book ;) Aside from the positions which we all know it includes there is a lot of other really outdated stuff. It's hard to believe that people once followed this book as an authority LOL The most hilarious chapters are the ones on superstitious beliefs and the discussions of home cooked remedies, for example: Apply to the lips every day the sweat from the testicles of a white horse mixed with yellow arsenic....I don't think so! LOL This book is great for a laugh. I recommend putting it in the bathroom as it's great reading when you only have time for brief snippets. An acclaimed new translation by Wendy Doniger and Sudhir Kakar. This is an abridged edition of the original Doniger / Kakar work published in 2002 by the Oxford University Press. The Kamasutra is one of the oldest existing Hindu book on the art of living. This edition is accompanied by erotic art from a Nepalese illuminated manuscript, dated 1450. The original text was composed in the 3rd century in Sanskrit, the literary language of ancient India. The words kama and sutra mean “desire/pleasure/sex? (kama) and “a treasure? (sutra). We know virtually nothing about the author, Vatsyayana Mallanaga, other than his name. ISBN: 0762416084 [abt/05] no reviews | add a review
