I'm sure Jimmy Stewart knew he wasn't a great poet, This little book doesn't pretend to be more than it is either--brief and sweet. "Here I am as I am," the book says, "spare a moment and share a smile or a tear with me. " ( )All I can say about this book is that I'm glad Jimmy Stewart stayed with movies and not writing. Poetry is not his craft. The good thing about this book is that it's only 30 pagers long. However, I must admit I did actually enjoy his story and poem on his old dog Beau. Technically not the best or most introspective poetry I've ever read. What it is, is a gently amusing, sweetly funny collection of poems that recall some of life's little incidents. Each poem is preceded by a page or two of Jimmy remembering the event and setting the scene. The poems and the prose are very much like the man himself. I got this book when I was a kid. Back then, you could write letters to Jimmy Stewart telling him how much you liked his poetry. Or his movies, especially Harvey and Vertigo. Or After the Thin Man. And so on. But, he's dead now, unfortunately and you can't write him letters. Well, you could. But he'd almost certainly never reply to them. It's a shame. A great book. Beau is the best. I love that he read it on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. no reviews | add a review
