Bad writing. Bad plot. Bad characters. Ugh. I can’t believe I actually finished it. I had zero sympathy for any of the people in this book; not for the victim and not for the father who spends the entire book trying to solve the crime. Not much of the plot rang true. First of all, the cops let the father in on every detail of the case and let him interrogate suspects, view crime scenes and generally act like one of the detectives. This would never happen; not in real life and not in good books. So something had to be up with that; one of the cops had to have killed her or had something to do with her death. And of course; that is the case. One cop is having an affair with her and comes in on her body while it’s still warm. Another cop is the actual killer. The psychopathic mass murderer with the “fearsome” agenda is of practically no significance whatsoever. Sure he saw a bit of what happened, but, he’s not exactly up front with the information, instead he prefers to drop hints had are so removed from the facts as to be unfathomable. In hindsight the father sees what the guy meant by his cryptic messages and feels guilty about not solving the crime himself. All in all, a pathetic effort. (
