An elderly lady returns "home" to Pickax after 60 years in Hollywood, arrives with her nephew (a gambler and basically suspicious guy). Starts up an old movies filmclub at the Opera House. Someone kidnaps the parrots!

The denizens of Pickax are seeing stars: actress Thelma Thackeray has left Hollywood to spend her declining years 400 miles north of everywhere. But her time won't be spent idly - with the acquisition of the old opera house, her plans for a film club are under way. 
But Thelma's celebrated arrival on Pleasant street takes an unpleasant turn when one of her prized Amazon parrots is birdnapped. Then, the strange circumstances of her twin brother's recent death seem suspicious to Jim Qwilleran.
Qwill needs a helping paw in this case. But will Koko the cat deign to take time from his stage debut in the local Kit Kat Revue fund-raiser? Ask Koko's agent ...
