Lane takes a mildly rhetorical-critical approach to Mark's Gospel (setting it against the Neronian persecution in Rome), and is abreast of the scholarship of his day while remaining evangelical in approach. This commentary helped the Gospel of Mark become more to me than the "Summary Gospel", and was a constant companion when I preached a series of sermons on it.
