Guy Watson began farming at Riverford in 1985 on three acres of land on the Watson family farm based in Staverton, South Devon. With the land fully converted to organic status in 1987, Guy began delivering his vegetables to local shops, including his brother's farm shops. This is one of the best sources of information on seasonal vegetables I have read. The recipes are straightforward and easy to follow. The recommendations for storage of vegetables is very useful and has made buying much easier. Overall the authors are practical in their approach, avoiding fancy fashionable phrases so frequently used by 'TV' chefs.
The observations made by Guy Watson throughout the book are interesting and whilst I do agree with them all, they are his genuinely held views and therefore deserve respect.
This is one cookery book that will sit on the worktop rather than on a shelf. ( )

Guy Watson runs Riverford farm, a fruit and veg farm, in Buckfastleigh, South Devon, UK. He wrote this book alongside the Field Kitchen (the Riverford restaurant; much of the food used is provided by the farm itself) chef, Jane Baxter. Watson wrote the beginning of each chapter that is dedicated to one crop, and Baxter provided the recipes in each chapter. Watson also includes rants about his dislike of supermarkets, the benefits of his vegbox scheme, and "An Ode to Dirt."
