Essential reference for veterinary matters, but it's very medical. If you're a layman it's helpful to have something else on hand that's specific to your pet (dog, cat, horse, etc.) that describes diseases and treatments in slightly less clinical fashion. It's quite possible to scare yourself silly reading this book. ( )
