This sweet and endearing book shows the similarities between the thoughts and feelings of animals and people. A little girl named Lia and a lost dog both feel very alone in the world until they find each other. Lia pedals on her bike thinking up stories to keep herself company while the little dog wanders and explores the narrow streets and wide boulevards of town after town. At night, they both fall asleep and tuck themselves inside themselves where they can dream and not feel so alone. One night, they both get caught in the same rainstorm and find themselves together on Lia's front porch. Now, they are not alone. Now, they have each other. This book teaches young students how powerful animals can be as friends and companions.

This book is about a dog that belonged to no one, but was nice and helpful to anyone. He wandered the streets minding his own business. There is also a girl in the story, whose parents are bakers and she helps them in the bakery. Both characters are lonely and wanting a friend. Finally, on a rainy day, both characters run into each other to get out of the rain and become friends.
