Gilbert is excited to go as a martian for Halloween but apparently so is everyone else in his class. His classmates get ready for the Halloween parade and almost everyone decided to be martian. Gilbert is disappointed but as he looks in his bag he realizes he accidentally grabbed his sisters ballerina costume. He was too embarrassed to show his face at first but when they arrive at the party he twirls in front of everyone making it seem like he wanted to be something different. I feel this book touches on the stereotypical gender role, using a ballerina costume for sister and an alien for a boy. In the classroom you could read this during Halloween and talk to students about being what they want to be, not what they are told to be. ( )

The book TRICK OR TREAT, SMELL MY FEET is a book about siblings. This book is best suited for children in grades 2-4 because of the wording on the pages. The pictures in this book are unique because instead of showing people it uses animals and I think that is a good way to get the attention of kids. The message of this book is to show the relationship between siblings and how important they are for each other. In this book the little girl saves her big brother by having him wear her halloween costume because he had the same one as all the other kids. ( )

Too long for storytime. Gilbert thinks his costume is the only original space hero costume, his sister tries to copycat him. When he gets to school everyone else is a space hero, too, and he is stuck with his sister's ballerina outfit.

It is halloween and Gilbert's mother made him a martian space pilot costume. his sister then says she wants to be the same as Gilbert, but he convinces her to wear the ballerina costume their mother made her. He goes to school and begins to change into the costume for the parade. He pulls out a little pink tutu. he puts it on with a bag over his head. He cuts through the children in the parade until he finds his parents and sister. He grabs her to bring her into the school so they can change. when they walk into the classroom all of his classmates and teacher are in there. He then pretends that he put on the ballerina costume because everyone was a martian space pilot and he wanted to be something different.
