Any of the Endless from Sandman would be kinda cool to hang out with for a bit, though if I had to pick any character from that series I'd probably want to meet Lucien so that I could borrow a book or two ;-)

Most of my Christian non-fiction unsuggestions seem to be prompted by comics/graphic novels (The Sandman, Johnny the Homicidal Maniac, Maus, ect.) and sci-fi/fantasy (Blood Music, A Wizard Alone, The Crystal City, etc.) including a lot of Orson Scott Card' ... ... rachnophobia.

Sandman by Neil Gaiman, may I post comics too? :) ... lazy and not turning up for work on time. You would think he would be a more committed worker from reading Neil Gaiman's The Sandman comics, but NO.
What should I do to entice him to return to work? Give him health benefits? Pay rise? Reasonable working hours? ... a few, can I recommend Neverwhere and American Gods as my current favourites (and very different books), although the Sandman series are also fantastic (some better than others), even if you're not a comic person. He also has a (most of the time) very entertaining blog at http://www.neilga ... ... in case I'm actually starting from December last year! ;)

1) Neil Gaiman's Sandman: I reread all of these over Christmas and into the New Year. Some are better than others, but they all get better every time I read them...
2) Jim Coetzee - ... ... more accepted lately. I only realized that there are some books that aren't translated into German when I wanted to get The Sandman for my sister. I'd told her a lot about it and she said she was very interested in the whole series, but didn't think she could read it in English. When I ... ... additional suggestions as well.
edited to add Neil Gaiman actually has some graphic novelizations of his books (Sandman) but I'm not sure if they're written in Japanese. ... I have, is really good and provides a unique interpretation of the original work.
My suggestion: try something like The Sandman first, if you're a Fantasy/Neil Gaiman buff. Then tackle V for Vendetta, by the same guy who made Watchmen, before you tackle Watchmen itself. Graphic novels not significant? I have only one thing to say: Sandman. I had to get the Sandman companion book to catch all the references! Neil Gaiman will keep your brain in gear. Thanks for the recommendations, xicanti! I must admit that I can't really get into Neil Gaiman's books, other than Sandman. I tried both Neverwhere and American Gods and just wasn't interested. Sandman's brilliant, though.
I've just sent a sample chapter of Tanya Huff's Smoke ... ... Blood Books, while Gaiman has written three urban fantasies: Neverwhere, American Gods and Anansi Boys. His Sandman series is also worth checking out, if you like graphic novels. It's a mix of horror, urban fantasy and high fantasy.

and I was given, by my cousin who wrote it, The Discoveries of Mrs. Christopher Columbus Sandman by Gaiman is still listed as a separate work. With Sandman, both Sandman AND Preludes & Nocturnes are listed. So, I would guess, take out the Sandman listing? Hey, I noticed Preludes & Nocturnes is listed as a 12 volume series and Sandman is listed as 1 book. Preludes and Nocturnes is the first book of the Sandman Series.
Also, The Gunslinger is part of the Dark Tower series. Dark Tower is also on the list. ... be in it but then funding fell through :(
Also I second the nominations for Stranger in a Strange Land, Enders Game, Sandman, and The Eyre Affair. All would be movies I'd love to see.
The Sandman: Dream Country has the World Fantasy Award winning "A Midsummer Night's Dream" in it, which was the only comic ever to win a World Fantasy Award (They changed the rules the next day so it would never happen again). That's significant enough to get a vote from me. ... series by Weis and Hickman. NOT all the myriad offshoot collections and short stories necessarily.

FAVORITE BOOK(s): Ditto. I cannot choose!!! A default title is The Sandman, obviously. Anything else, just look at my library. Oh and... DICTIONARIES!! The crazier, the better.

Sports for example), Korea, HK, Singapore, Japan, but not usually the ones from America. Popular American comics such as Sandman, LoEG, etc. just don't appeal to the comics readers in this household. The Gaiman reader, on the other hand, won't touch graphic novels!
