Story of 2 cousins growing up in 1860 in different worlds. Nate is a child of the South - his father owns a cotton plantation,keeps slaves and turns a blind eye to the inhumane treatment of his slaves by the cruel overseer Frank King. In contrast, Walt lives in Canada where black people are free to own property. Both their lives are thrown into chaos by an escaped slave called Sunday and the American Civil War.
