Also still very slowly reading Doubt: a history. The book is huge and dense, but also very very good so far. Read The Ghost Brigades and The Last Colony last night. Both were extremely fun to read, had some interesting ideas, and expanded upon the setting and ideas of "Old Man's Tale" quite well. Well worth reading if you enjoyed the original novel. Just picked up John Scalzi's The Last Colony. I enjoyed the first two, Old Man's War and The Ghost Brigades, and have been reading good things on LT about the 4th, Zoe's Tale. ... and creative characters, plot, or anything else.
Just finished a reread of Old Man's War so I could sweep through Ghost Brigades and The Last Colony for the first time (both really great!), although I'm still waiting for my copy of Zoe's Tale to come in.
Now I've just started Ne ... ... ZOE'S TALE by John Scalzi
Unlike the other Old Man's War novels, this is not a standalone -- you need to have read The Ghost Brigades and The Last Colony at least. This is Zoe Boutin-Perry's perspective on the events in those two books. A good tie-in with The Last Colony, a fun ... ... know if Zoe's War is OK as a standalone. I haven't read it yet.

I second (third) John Scalzi's Old Man's War (and his follow-ups The Ghost Brigades & The Last Colony).
Reading this thread, I was reminded of an excellent military SF book I read about 5 years ago titled The Last World War by Dayton Ward, has anybody else read it?

Next up is The Ghost Brigades. ... and bought a copy at B&N. It's a very good book. Every bit as good as the previous books in the series (Old Man's War and The Ghost Brigades).

Possibly my favorite Robin Hood story. Though I should someday read a few more to ... ... thanks to his free book, so read Old Man's War after that. Now I can check this out, see if I like it enough to get The Ghost Brigades too. ... Old Man's War universe but from the perspective of Jane Sagan (as opposed to John Perry). Timeline wise, it is between The Ghost Brigades and The Last Colony (not out yet).
It is fabulous. If you are a OMW fan, The Sagan Diary audiobook ... ... now, possibly over a year. Or maybe not. Anyway, I didn't look at his books until this year, and I got Old Man's War, The Ghost Brigades, and The Android's Dream, all of which I really liked. The first two are related, and the third book in the trilogy (The Last Colony) is coming out ... ... by often I reread books. But these are newer SF that I really like a lot:
