Being a collection of aerial photographs taken from an ultralight and depicting patterns and markings in the terrain, as well as occasional manmade structures. On facing pages are captions of a sort, excerpts from literature, mostly poetry. I rarely think that poetry adds much to a photography book, but in the case I usually liked the poems better than the photography, which was a little abstract for my taste. It emphasizes matters such as shadows, contrasting colors, and patterns which have always interested photographers, but since I lack a photographer's eye, they rarely spoke to me. Literally at new heights of his photographic powers, Maxwell Mackenzie shows us stunning new views of the planet and of man's surprising, delightful, and "whimsical" markings on it. Piloting, and photographing from, his ultra-light aircraft, he has found wondrous, and often mysterious, designs in the earth. No library descriptions found. |
