Con Clint Eastwood, Sondra Locke, Chief Dan George, Bill McKinney, John Vernon. * Josey Wales (Eastwood), un contadino di Missouri (e non del Texas, come dice il titolo italiano) che ha visto massacrare la sua famiglia da una banda di nordisti, non accetta la resa e viene braccato per vari Stati prima di vendicarsi e di trovare finalmente la pace. Western di respiro epico, storicamente preciso, tra i migliori di Eastwood, popolato da un'odissea di reietti , che finisce con l'essere un inno alla tolleranza dai toni mistici e utopistici. Originale il personaggio del vecchio capo cherokee (il vero capo indiano Dan George) che è stato scacciato dalla sua gente dopo essere stato ingannato dai bianchi. Il film avrebbe dovuto essere diretto dallo sceneggiatore Philip Kaufman, ma Eastwood (che per la prima volta fa coppia con quella che era la sua compagna, Sondra Locke) preferì fare da solo. ( )

Josey Wales es un ex-soldado confederado que se dedica ahora a atender su granja al lado de su esposa y su pequeño hijo... hasta que un día, llegan miembros de la guerrilla Los botas rojas (al servicio de los ejércitos de la Unión) y matan a su familia. Desde entonces, Wales decidirá cobrar venganza y se convertirá en perseguido fugitivo al ser el último hombre que se ha negado a firmar un acuerdo de paz con los vencedores en la Guerra de secesión.
