The writing is lacklustre, the characters are unbearably irritating, there were multiple typos indicating a lack of spellchecking, nevermind proofreading; and while I don't generally mind figuring out the ending while in the first chapters, this time it made me impatient to be done. The whole production seems rushed. I'm glad I've already read further into the series and know that it gets better, or I'd probably stop right here. Overly long and I found the solution somewhat obvious. I also disliked how Patrik would get some crucial piece of evidence which the reader is told is crucial but not told what it is. In addition, while I was interested in what was going on with Erika and her sister because I had read the previous book, this time this storyline was not relevant to the plot. In a quiet beach town in Sweden, where crime is usually minor, there seems to be more murders than usual lately. I'm wondering how long this series can continue before the number of murders begins to stretch credulity. First, there was the Ice Princess, the first book of the series. Now, The Preacher continues the story with several more over a period of about 20 years or so. This book continues the story and characters introduced in the first book. Ericka and Patrik are married expecting their first child. Ericka's sister has separated from her abusive husband and found a new man who seems to have his own set of problems. And people keep dying. In this story, it all centers around a big family descended from a man called The Preacher. He's long dead, but not forgotten. His sons each started their families, and a family feud developed mostly because one brother reported seeing the other with a girl who was murdered. No conviction resulted, but the accused brother later killed himself, and his family blamed the other for this. Because of this, and other things, one prospered and another declined. The poor side was jealous of the richer side, of course. A lot of mysteries develop during the story, as well as a few humorous events having nothing to do with the main story, but do help develop the characters and show their personalities more. I'm looking forward to reading more about them all to see what develops in the future. There's a bit of a soap opera mixed in with the crimes, so I'll need to continue while I remember the story line. no reviews | add a review
The discovery of two murder victims who were killed twenty years earlier is complicated by the body of a third, recent victim at the same location, a case that compels detective Patrik Hedstrom to investigate a feuding clan of misfits, religious fanatics, and criminals.
