This was such a fantastic book I'm going to go out and buy it before I forget. I read this with a 3rd grade class and most of them loved it. This is such a great book because it helped to teach the kids more about Hurricane Katrina and just how much it affected everyone. The book is about Bobby the dog and Bobcat the cat. They get left behind during the hurricane and don't get rescued. Finally, Bobby is able to break his chain and he and Bobcat set off in search of food and water. Bobcat always follows right behind Bobby's chain. They find a kind person who begins to feed them, but Bobby never lets him touch Bobcat. His boss tells him he can't keep them so he sets up a trap to take them to the shelter. When the shelter gets them, they are seperated, but they soon realize the two need each other. Then, they realize why. Bobcat is blind and Bobby acts as her seeing eye dog. They are able to set up an adoption to keep them together and it has a happy ending. The story is very well written and moving. The illustrations are fantastic and they are based on real photographs. This is a true story also. This is one I would recommend to anyone. ( )

This is an amazing book based on a true story of Hurricane Katrina victims. Bobbi (a dog) and Bob Cat (a cat with a bobbed tail) are abandoned by their owners and left to fend for themselves. They exhibit incredible courage and undying loyalty in their fight to survive. In the end, they are adopted by a family in Oregon which makes this an even better book. Highly recommended! ( )

This book has beautiful detailed realistic illustrations with bold colors. It’s appealing both for its story and its pictures. The story is compelling to children as it about two animals who help each other to survive by staying together when Hurricane Katrina strikes New Orleans. As a surprising twist, the reader discovers near the end of the story that the cat is blind and the dog has been “seeing” for him. A great true story about how 2 friends help each other. Great appeal to kids who like animals and a great survival story. Along the way kids will learn about the effects of Hurricane Katrina (or a similar natural disaster) on families.
