They are very detailed and fast paced from the first page. This one shows that the old cold war is not so cold. ( )I enjoyed this book. Typical Rollins little bit of weirdness, but likable characters. Great book. Matthew Pike is the hero and the action is pretty non-stop. The creature they are fighting is pretty gruesome. Could read this one again. Another solid action/adventure from James Rollins. I won't bother with a detailed description but Rollins books are usually about a group of people, good against evil of course, and they race to save the world...or try to destroy it. I get bored easily so I mix in a Rollins book amongst the classics, historical fiction and romantic suspense I usually read. Always guaranteed an exciting, fast-paced read and you learn about obscure scientific facts. I also appreciate how his books are not geared to just a male audience. Can't wait to read the next one. See more of my reviews at http://myobsessionwithbooks.blogspot.... Much better than the last Rollings book I read. This one was another good story idea, but had better execution than SUBTERRANEAN. I love the Arctic & Antarctic storylines, love subs, love underground things. This one had all of that and a really cool hero, too. Screenplay-worthy. On a scale of 1 to 10, it's an 8. no reviews | add a review

James Rollins invokes the polar environment so vividly you can hear the wind shriek and feel the ice forming on your nose, and the scientific/medical puzzles at the story's heart may remind you of Michael Crichton's best. The characters, while mostly familiar hero or villain types, are crisply drawn and in some cases quite sympathetic, but it's the nonstop action that carries you along. During several climactic chase scenes, you may find yourself laughing in pure delight--or gasping for breath--as Rollins keeps finding ways to ratchet up the tension one more notch. Ice Hunt is an escapist's delight. --Nicholas H. Allison
