Great book for Halloween. Inspiring to read about females in power and intrigued by the way many of them died. We chose this for a book club; not a book club type of book. Illustrations are amazing, though. A fun read. 57. Doomed Queens by Kris Waldherr. Very interesting and well-researched book of short profiles of queens throughout history who met bad endings. Some died in childbirth, some were forced into convents and many were murdered, often by their own husbands, some by their mother-in-laws. Very few ... I'm still working on The Stories of John Cheever and have also started Doomed Queens, about queens throughout history who have met bad ends. I've heard great things about A Concise Chinese-English Dictionary for Lovers. I haven't read it yet, but it's in my stacks somewhere.
