Yoga provides not only an excellent, low-impact workout, it also helps young people in key areas such as body awareness, flexibility, concentration, stress reduction, and self-expression. The exercises and games in this easy-to-follow guide are specifically designed to fit the needs of teenagers and to show teens how to work out and train their bodies in a relaxed way. It requires no advance knowledge or preparation and can be used by anyone working with teens between the ages of 10 and 20. The exercises are divided into static postures, dynamic postures, and exercises in pairs. There are also visualization and meditation exercises based on the four elements of nature as well as an introduction to the basics of yoga philosophy. The book can be used with large and small groups or as part of a parent-teen activity. Practicing yoga together is a perfect opportunity for parents and teens to exercise, talk, and spend time together in a healthy, positive manner.… (more)

Although I didn't get this book in it's finished format, I can see that it gives good, straight forward explanations on how to get started with a yoga routine. I would even recommend this book to adults looking for a basic start to yoga. ( )

I really enjoyed this book. It was a big hit in my low impact arobic class. It worked out great because there seem to be a lot of partner possing involed and it worked out great inside the class. The book was a great tool to figure out poses that I hadn't tried before. An easy read to understand and to put to use. Would use in a yoga class in a middle school or high school. ( )

I really liked this book. I take the occasional yoga class but am largely left to my own devices to get my yoga on, and I found this book to be very helpful with figuring out poses I hadn't tried before. It was helpful, but I have found much more useful yoga books than this one.

"Yoga Exercises for Teens" is an easy to read and accessible introduction to yoga for young people. The line drawings of teens and the descriptions of the exercises are easy to follow. In addition, the drawings show that yoga can be done by people of all sizes and shapes and that you don't need much specialized equipment.

That said, I think the author would have served teens better to include a section on yoga props and using a focus point when doing balancing poses. The author is correct in saying that many teens can find benefit in yoga, but I think that teens who are new to exercise or looking to improve their health and fitness would benefit from having an approach that helps them build up into full poses.

I think teens will pick this book up and find it useful, even though it is written more for someone who may be offering yoga as an option in physical education classes. I would definitely recommend it for schools and fitness programs for teens. ( )

I'm still pretty new to yoga and I thought this book was pretty good at telling you what to do. It's more detailed than a DVD in some ways but I guess I'm a pretty visual person because I think I'd rather learn by watching someone. That's just me I think though, because the book is well written with clear instructions.
