I wasn't sure whether or not to buy The Painted Man, but you have just convinced me to add it to my TBR pile. :) I just finished the Warded Man (also called the Painted Man) and am I'm now working on getting through Acacia, by David Anthony Durham, which I started awhile ago but keep interrupting in order to read other books. The Painted Man by Peter Brett is not too bad an opening for a series as it sets up the back story of the main characters in some depth. While this book doesn't contain anything startlingly original it does a good job of world building and has enough dramatic encounters to keep you wanting ... 136. The Warded Man by Peter Brett

I followed that up with The Warded Man for LT Early Reviewers. It was good, and probably better than I had hoped. Not great fantasy fiction, but still very enjoyable.

The Painted Man was published in the UK last fall, and will be released in the US this spring as The Warded Man. This wouldn't be a problem if everyone on LT that owns "Painted" wouldn't have listed the author as Peter Brett instead of the proper Peter V. Brett. ... ... books were a centerfold that you can tear out. I literally broke the book, turning back and forth while reading.

I actually got a book that I'd read good things about beforehand: The Warded Man. My two prior ER books (Any Given Doomsday and The Black Whole), I signed up for because they looked interesting at the time, and I've since learned my lesson: to only to request stuff that I actually want. ... been away from reading in favor of writing so here's the list I hope to tackle in December:
