... that Christmas is wrapping up.
Christmas gifts in the form of books:
Let the Great World Spin by Colum McCann and The Lieutenant by Kate Grenville one of my favorite authors :) ... This really was easy, Lunar. Turns out I only have one book left: something Australian :-)
I have Kate Grenville's Het verre paradijs in front of me, but all suggestions are welcome! I'm in 1789 now in The Lieutenant. 7. New authors

The Wizard of the Crow
8. Australia and the Pacific
The Lieutenant by Kate Grenville
The Time We Have Taken by Steven Carroll I did read The Secret River and have Grenville's newest book, ( in Canada that is), The Lieutenant on my wishlist. 39. The Lieutenant, Kate Grenville, Australia, 2008 Reread
Kate Grenville takes the historical personage William Dawes, a marine and engineer on the First Fleet accompanying Captain Arthur Phillip to establish the first colony at Sydney Cove 26th January 1788, and redraws him as Rooke, the Lieu ... 14. The lieutenant by Kate Grenville
This is the fictionalised story of William Dawes (Daniel Rooke in the novel), who arrived in Australia with the First Fleet in 1788, and his interactions with the Aboriginals who inhabitated the area around Sydney Cove.
I enjoyed this book, however ... ... coldwater, Jack Maggs and Miles McGinty.
I dont have a copy of it but I'm looking forward to Kate Grenvilles The Lieutenant at some stage, I really enjoyed Secret River. Also, a novel by a local writer, it is a very easy read, based on a young Australian man who went to fight ... ... Eat You All

Here's a few I pulled from recent Guardian reviews:
Sa ... Well, I just finished The secret river after all the recommendations here and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm off to find The Lieutenant now. Finished Kate Grenville's The Lieutenant recently. I don't believe the book has yet been published in the US. It's a great read, a fairly straightforward historical fiction about the meeting of two cultures in the earliest days of Australia's colonization. It's not necessarily a powerful read, as ... Just finished Kate Grenville's The Lieutenant, a very good historical fiction set in the first year of Australia's colonization. ... margin-right:10px;" src="http://www.librarything.com/picsizes/5f/8e/6b11aebef390fd4d649e1d349302b495.jpg">
86. The Lieutenant by Kate Grenville
A well-crafted historical fiction which tells the tale of the brilliant Daniel Rooke who, as a soldier and an astronomer, journeys ... ... in early 19th century New England, but by night I sneak off to New South Wales, Australia in the late 18th century with The Lieutenant by Kate Grenville. However, I am also visiting a UK where things are more than they seem in a forthcoming short fiction collection by Robert Shearman. Seems we are having a Kate Grenville lovefest. I've started The Lieutenant by her. I'm reading The Lieutenant by Kate Grenville. I will probably read The Lieutenant by Kate Grenville, a thoughtful gift from another LTer. It's historical fiction set late 18th century New South Wales. Grenville's a favorite author:-) How fortuitous..
