Despite years of reading fantasy and science fiction, I only knew Andre Norton for the award named after her, not for having read any of her work. Since we own several of her books, I decided it was time to rectify that and picked up Witch World, the first book in her Witch World series, about a parallel universe where magic works.

Witch World is written in a very stylized manner - there's a lot of "and he thought they were dead. But they were not!" - common to the era it was written, I think, but not really my usual cup of tea.

That said, I'm really intrigued by the mystery of who or what the Kolder are. I think I will find book 2 on our shelf one of these days and try to find out

I originally read this book back in 1985. I have to say I had forgotten alot of the story line however still fell in love with the witchworld all over again.

I finished it and can truely say it was like reading it for the 1st time. The story seemed a little familar but I must have forgotten alot of the detail.

Anyway I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to reading the rest of the Witchworld books.

The ending left it open for lots of possibilities without being a cliffhanger. That is probably what Andre Norton was going for.

I would recommend this book to anyone who loves mixed world type Sci fi and Fantasy. ( )

Seventeen would NOT have been the same without this series of books! ( )

Not too bad. Fairly standard modern man goes to another place that is a fantasy world type story. A dashing military man of action type guy, in this case. Basically, your standard Edgar Rice Burroughs setup for this sort of thing, then a little different once he gets there.

He is lured to a house by a man who promises an interesting artifact. He certainly gets a lot more than he bargained for.
