I love a good vampire tale and when it's "paranormal romance" it cannot be too cheesy or implausible. From the cover and the title and the silly pen name I was worried. But inside this cheesy cover is a damn good vampire yarn. There are politics, adventure, a champion, a sidekick, and an interesting side story about a vampire wannabe. All of this takes place in Savannah, Georgia (lovingly described by the author). I would not describe this as a paranormal romance, but as a vampire adventure. Hope to see more. ( )I picked this up on a whim, and it turned out better than I thought it might. A little confused in narrative, and I am not a great fan of the alternating first person narratives. Vampire books seem popular now, especially the various 'paranormal romance', and 'chick-lit' types. This vamp book, however, is certainly not in either category. Mind you, neither would I class it as a horror, even though the publishers appear to. William and Jack are very strong, well written characters - they are very different, and yet they compliment each other well. They're also supported by a wealth of other characters, including shape shifters. The storyline is well written, and very gripping.. you feel as if you really know these characters, and care about their outcomes. There's a clever mix of humour, blood and sex, and it'll leave you wanting more.... An unusual blend of vampires an voodoo makes for an interesting twist on a classic genre. The co-writers (Susan Goggins and Virginia Ellis) have a complimentary writing partnership and their styles gel well. Getting the story from the point of view of two vampires (William and Jack) also gives a nice back-and-forth edge to the narrative and characters from different eras as well as different areas add depth. There are plenty of sexy shenanigans, as may be expected from a vampire romance, but it’s not too graphic and takes the unusual tactic of being from the male point of view, which is a nice change for the genre. no reviews | add a review
