The book within a mystery works fine but the convoluted resolution seems contrived. A woman accused of murdering her missing never found child never confesses and sits in jail for seven years. That’s the basic mystery in a nutshell. What really happened? The characters impacted by this decision. Lippman’s writing never fails us. She wouldn’t know how to write in an uninteresting method. ( ) I had read several favorable reviews in national publications and thought this would be one I couldn't put down. As it turns out, I could, I thought the book was pretty average in terms of plot and writing. The main character is looking back at her childhood through much of the book and I found her ability to remember so many events and conversations from childhood unlikely. It's not a bad read but not one I would recommend to people who have lots in their TBR stack. This is the story of Cassandra Fallows who is writer. This was the first book I had read by this author and was pleasantly surprised by how good the book was. Ms. Fallows is the product of a broken home and her first two books are memoirs of her life. She returns to her hometown of Baltimore to investigate the death of a former classmates child that happened seven years ago. What she discovers while investigating the death of the child is truly revealing. The book was well written with good character development. Enjoyed the book so much will definitely be looking for more by this author. Highly recommend this book. no reviews | add a review
