I love Ella Enchanted! I am a constant re-reader! I think the books I have read the most are Ella Enchanted, Island Of The Aunts, and The Penderwicks.

2) I have tons of favorite books but top ones are The Gemma Doyle Trilogy, Harry Potter, The Mortal Instruments, Ella Enchanted, and Fablehaven.
3) I love books by Gail Carson Levine, Eva Ibbotson, and J.K Rowling. I had just gotten a copy of Ella Enchanted through BookMooch when I read Stasia's review this week, so I read it last night for some light fare after The Drunkard's Walk. It was a quick, light, well-handled, and enjoyable read, a Newbery Honor book. ... road from March all the way to here. I am in awe of your book-completion abilities.
And I am awfully glad that you liked Ella Enchanted, because I love Gail Carson Levine and sometimes I feel like she's a bit of a guilty pleasure -- for example, the Princess Tales series she did was ... ... makes the physics very accessible and I will definitely be rereading it at some future time; highly recommended

I was a school librarian for years (decades!) and I heartily agree on all points - especially Ella Enchanted and Goose Girl. ... A. McKillip, but again she doesn't write urban fantasy. (The Forgotten Beasts of Eld, is an example that touchstones.)
Ella Enchanted is also a good book, if you're in for something more romantic and fluffy. (Don't let that put you off, though. It's a darned good book! Doesn't treat romance ... ... wanting to read a whole series at one time.

I bought this on the strength of the glowing reviews on Amazon, many from people who loved both the book AND the film. I actually found the two to be very different, and on balance I much prefer the film (sacrilege, I know, I know...). Where the film ... ... books, cups of tea, and the most friendly cat I ever met. While I was away I finished The Big Over Easy, read Ella Enchanted and Angels and Demons, and now I'm over halfway through Breaking Dawn. I was waiting to read the last two until this holiday, so I could really let ... #58: I have not read Ella Enchanted although I have seen the movie. I will give the book a go. 31. Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine
I've already read every book she's written, because this was the first book of hers I ever read, and I ADORED it. It's all ... ... she finds herself as well as the killer of her parents.
A nice combination of fairy tales. Sort of reminded me of Ella Enchanted but Ben wasn't nearly as likable as Ella until more towards the end. Good read. It could've used a bit more magic, I thought. I wish Murdock had left it open ... ... of" (or something along those lines).

Ella Enchanted, which I didn't know was a book until reading it on a reco list. We love the movie here, so I had to grab the book :-) ... be! Having said that they might be too young for the average 11 year-old these days anyway if they're reading Twilight.

What fairy tales are you particularly fond of?
I've loved the adaptations by Gail Carson Levine, particularly Ella Enchanted, and Robin McKinley's work. I'm especially fond of Beauty and the Beast stories and loved McKinley's Beauty.

Ack! Um, all the harry potter books, Howl's Moving Castle, Ella Enchanted, Murder on the Orient Express, East, Alanna, Pride and Prejudice. How will I carry all that? I'm going to put them in a bag of course. ;)
I know I' ... Sometimes I find if I see the movie first, I like it better than the book. This happened for both Ella Enchanted and Stardust. But most of the time I like the book better than the movie.
I'm very back and forth on the whole "Twilight as a movie" thing. I love the book but never thought ... ... writes a group of retellings: Fairest, a version of Snow White, Ever, a blend of fairy tale and myth, and of course Ella Enchanted.
I also love reading the fairy tales that come from various cultures. The Persian Cinderella was one I liked, though definitely a children's story. ... recommend it.
I wish I could say such nice things about Ever by Gail Carson Levine. I absolutely *loved* Ella Enchanted. I can't even tell you how many times I've read that book. I thought Fairest was so-so, and decided to wait and get Ever from the library; thank god I ... Since May 8th I've finished:

A little behind where I should be.
I should have read 36 by now, but I've been reading ARCs and ... #68 - Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine, 232 pages. Saw the movie, wanted to read the book. Cute, but another take on the Cinderella story. My big weepy books are: the Anne of Green Gables series, A Little Princess, The Secret Garden, and Ella Enchanted. I guess I'm a sucker for orphaned heroines! I finished The Dark is Rising series, and I just did a reread of Ella Enchanted (a big favorite of mine).

From Dead to ... 58. Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine
This was basically a retelling of the Cinderella story. Written for children, but still entertaining for me! ... with the female leads turned into real characters. One of my favorite childhood authors; her best-known book is probably Ella Enchanted.
Certain Terry Pratchett books have female leads, mainly any of the ones to do with witches (Equal Rites, Witches Abroad, Wyrd Sisters, Carpe Ju ... I saw the movie of Ella Enchanted first and have to admit that I was a bit disappointed when I read the book afterward.
And I totally agree with Ilithyia about Hugh Dancy. So Cute!! ... ability to sing "Somebody to Love" (Queen - I think) with the giants as back up singers!
If you liked the book Ella Enchanted she has a sequel Fairest about her Areida and living in Aorthya. She has several fairytale-ish books and they're all pretty good. I've just started Shades of Glory my April ER book. I read Ella Enchanted over the weekend - an embarrassingly easy read but in my 888 challenge as an award winner. A re-telling of the Cinderella tale.
On the way out of the house this morning I grabbed Love Lies Bleeding by Edmund Crisp ... ... my April ER book Shades of Glory. I'm dithering about a second book - possibly L.A. Requiem, Murder on the Links, or Ella Enchanted. Something light, anyway.
I'm supposed to read The Merry Wives of Windsor AND Hamlet for a June bookclub meeting, but am dithering about starting ... ... of Asprin's Myth series?

As for YA characters, I always liked Charming from Ella Enchanted, Sirius Black from Harry Potter, Laurie (Little Women), and John Reid (Time Enough for Drums). I'm sure I'll think of many more later, though. ... particularly Bartimaeus, his voice is just perfect.
Also just finished Gail Carson Levine's latest, Fairest. It's no Ella Enchanted, but definitely worth the read. I loved Ella Enchanted and The Princess Bride (does that count as a children's book?). The Historian was too creepy to listen to after dark (I'm a giant weenie), so I had to start Ella Enchanted to have something lighter to listen to at night.
