"Ouran High School Host Club" supposes you understand the concept, unique to Japan, of host clubs, places where men go to drink and have lovely (hired) women keep them company with witty banter and sexy appeal as they do so. Enter the plot of this manga, wherein 5 bishounen in a very rich school have developed a host club with a reversal - young men entertain young women over tea. The catalyst is a young person who accidentallys stumbles into their midst, the one "poor" student who must earn back the value of a broken vase. The comedy ensues over gender identities, bishounen 'type-casting,' rich vs. poor sensibilities, etc. These are very funny, and touching, stories. ( )Ah what an exciting volume! We get the beach, Halloween, and the twins' wish all at once. This volume starts out by jumping to the next episode/ standard setting, the beach. To Tamaki's dismay though, Haruhi won't wear a bathing suit, and the trip just turns into a Host Club venture, well at least there is the "find Haruhi's weakness" game. That is until some bullies show up and start harassing their customers. Haruhi (heroine that she is) takes them on, only to be given a reality check. Haruhi is okay, but the twins cause damage, and Tamaki won't talk to her until she apologizes. Here is some well-timed seriousness while Haruhi discovers saying there is no difference between boys and girls can be dangerous. After the tense moments in the first part of the volume the rest returns to the wacky story from before. The twins are doubly mischievous on Halloween, and Haruhi's house and father are finally revealed. no reviews | add a review
