Loading... Lincoln: Speeches and Writings: Volume 1: 1832-1858by Abraham Lincoln
None. A good selection of primary source material that illuminates for the reader Lincoln's rhetorical development. Written with 19th century cadences and language, it may try the patience of some modern readers. But close attention pays off with a deeper appreciation of Lincoln's intellectual and oratorical gifts. Few if any contemporary politicians or speech writers measure up to the standard set here. no reviews | add a review

This volume is a collection of speeches and letters from the 26 years before Lincoln became President, and clearly illuminates the evolution of his thinking as well as showing a core consistency in his philosophy. Highly recommended.
The Library of America edition is a beautiful one. (
